What is a NIN?

The National Identification Number (NIN) is the unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian, and is issued to you upon enrollment by NIMC (the National Identity Management Commission). It is used to match your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication.

How do I register for NIN?

You can register in any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of all enrollment centers nationwide.

My SIM was registered with my voter card, and not national card. Am I going to be affected?

This directive is to all citizens of Nigeria who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must be paired with your SIM Registration details.

How do I confirm my NIN number?

You can check your NIN Slip, it has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, on the second row. You can also dial *346# and press 1, please note that you may be charged 20 naira.

How to Connect/link your MTN SIM Card with your NIN I have a NIN offline?

Please provide us with your NIN, for further validation with NIMC. You can do this easily by dialing *785# free of charge and following the prompts. You can also submit your NIN to us on myMTN app.

After your NIN has been submitted, we will begin the process of verification with the NIMC. If your NIN is verified, we will link it to your MTN SIM registration, and you may not need to do anything further. If it is not possible to verify the NIN you have submitted, then you may need to visit an enrolment centre, in person.

Download the MTN MYAPP from playstore register  To link your National Identification Number (NIN) with your SIM registration data, please submit your NIN and phone number below.

Will my line be blocked if my NIN is not captured?

Yes. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications operators to block all lines not paired with NIN Number by December 30th 2020.

 I can see my NIN on my phone after dialing *346#, will my line still be blocked ?

All Customers are obligated to submit their NIN to their service provider; once the NIN you have submitted has been verified successfully with NIMC, your verified NIN will be linked with your SIM registration.

According to the NCC directive, lines not linked with their NIN before 30th December 2020, will be blocked.

Kindly dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit. Or, dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. You can also download myMTN App and follow the NIN banner to submit your NIN details in the app. Kindly note that the NIN you submit to us is subject to further verification by NIMC.

Can MTN send staff to my office to do the linking for me?

I have more than one phone number, how do I link them?

If I try it on my line and I am not registered, will I be charged 20 naira?

No please, an error message will pop up on your phone to indicate that the transaction was not successful

I get an error when I dial *346# does it work on all networks

Yes, the USSD code works for all networks. However, if you have registered for a NIN and you keep getting an error message, please dial your service provider help line. If you are yet to register for NIN please visit any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you to enroll or visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of all enrollment centers nationwide.

I have lost my NIN slip, how can I obtain another one?

Sorry about the loss of your NIN slip, kindly visit any bank around you, pay a token of N500 through REMITA, provide your REMITA Teller to any ERC near you and request for a NIN slip print.

I was able to view my NIN number on my bank app, why is MTN charging me N20?

*346# is currently a billable service offered by the National Identity Management Commission. An advice of charge, and a confirmatory notification will be sent to you upon dialing the code. The USSD code works for all networks. If the *346# NIMC service charges are waived in the future, we are sure NIMC will inform all users.
